The Draught of Living Death was the easiest solution to his predicament.
Severus Snape did not appreciate surprise birthday parties-especially those planned by busybody Hermione Granger, who seemed bound and determined to drag him into her idea of a social life.
The icing on the proverbial cake was the Daily Prophet photographers camped outside, waiting to snap photos of the stellar invitees.
He swallowed the potion and looked forward to a nice, quiet nap in the morgue. He slumbered with a smirk on his face, imagining Granger’s shocked expression the following morning when he would demand she quit meddling.
