I've always known this. Most of the bottled water you see on shelves don't come from "natural springs" or "protected sources"--they come from the same fucking city reservoir that you get your tap water from. The claim that most bottled water is "purer" is pure bullshit.
That said, I will buy bottled water from time to time, but I buy it for the convenience of having bottled water, not for health reasons.
"Hippie" has spread its definition to include yuppies, especially those who aren't quite so technophilic. Most hippies around here seem to be yuppies dressed like hippies anyway. And yeah, most Americans drink far too much Soda. I actually stopped drinking it on a regular basis about a month ago. I feel so much better. I'll still drink one every now and then, but I don't buy it for normal consumption.
The tap water here may be perfectly healthy to drink, but it always tastes like either chlorine or mold. I have no problems using tap water for ice cubes or cooking or making lemonade or other flavored drinks, but I would never drink straight water if I stopped drinking bottled water. I'm all for companies making non-PET bottles, though.
