Canisius College

Hi everyone. This is probably a long shot, but I figured I'd try! Does anyone know of/have experience with Canisius College and their Masters in Anthrozoology? The couple of students I've been in contact with love it, but I am trying to get more feedback. Thanks!

I don't know anything about that program specifically, but because I am from Buffalo I know a lot of people who went there (undergrad and grad) and everything I heard was positive. Because it is a relatively small school they are known for being very personable with easy access to profs and various departments (financial aid, registrar, etc). You won't encounter the same level of red tape bs that you would at a large state school. I am at one of the SUNY schools for my PhD, and take it from me, any lack of red tape is a blessing.

And of course Buffalo is a wonderful place to live. Very friendly, lots of amenities but not too crowded, plenty of opportunities for cultural experiences, easy access to Canada (Falls within minutes and Toronto is only 2 hours away), and of course the food and the sports culture are fantastic. There's a reason it is known as the City of Good Neighbors. Not the most important thing to consider, but you do have to be happy in the location you end up in order to be successful.

Tangentially related: I'm also at a SUNY school for a grad program right now, and yes, red tape is driving me BONKERS. I've never seen such a horrible set up for administrative type things. Yeesh.

I'm at Albany. Currently, I'm trying to get in-state residency (I lived in Michigan before this). Even the lady who was checking the file said it was "obvious" that I live here. However, when I filled out FAFSA, I guess it automatically put MI in, and I forgot to change it.

Yeah, they're denying me residency. FML.

Which one are you at?

I went to Canisius for my undergrad, but I was Political Science and English, so I'm no hope on Anthrozoology, unfortunately. Quite a number of my friends continued on to the grad school and seemed to love it! It's a fun school and a really tight-knit little community, since it's so small, and Buffalo's a fun and affordable city.

If you have any general questions about the school, I'm happy to help!

Thanks, I appreciate it! I should have clarified in the original entry - the major is mostly online, save for a 4 day campus visit before every semester. Thank you for the comment, though, sounds like people enjoy the school!
