First off, yes, I am still alive. I know, it's terrible; I don't write in forever, and when I do, it's in a fandom none of you are into yet. That's changing; I have a COMPLETE fic out to betas. DW crossover with BBC's Sherlock. Get into it now, folks. It's a good one ( Read more... )

You make me feel sorry that I live in Holland...I'd love it if LJ folk would come and test my guestroom..
I'm off to London and Much ado in june..On my birthday! On my holidays to the uk I've been in Bath, seen Stonehenge and walked the mountains green in Glastonbury (do take time to sit on the hill/the tor ..I never know if the tower is the Tor, of that the name is the whole hill)and visit the Well. Glastonbury is magical...
I wish you a lot of fun planning and if you ever plan for Holland..let me know!!!!!

Note to self... Couch available in Holland...

Oh, you have fun in London! I needed time to raise funds and get time off.

Glastonbury is now on my list. I need more of me to do everything I want to do.

If you plan on taking the train at all to get around any of the longer distances inside the UK, watch a site like EastCoast.co.uk like a hawk around 6-8 weeks before you want to do that journey - that's when the 'advance' tickets are released, and they're often only about 20% of the price of full fares (they are restricted, as you MUST travel on a specific train, but on a budget...). Unfortunately you can't get cheap tickets shorter distances - I can get to Edinburgh from my flat for the same price I can get to London. And London is only 40 minutes away.

For Cardiff, I'd recommend staying at The Riverhouse Backpackers--Website : www.riverhousebackpackers.com

It's ridiculously cheap, across the river from the Millenium Stadium and therefore about five-ten minute walk from the castle and shopping. It's a hostel, but the atmosphere is more B&B, although you share rooms. I've stayed there for both my Cardiff trips. Sometimes the website makes you book for a minimum of 3 nights, but if you just e-mail them, they'll let you book for as few as you want. I highly, highly recommend it. I usually stay with friends in London, so I have no London advice, sorry!

That's the one on my shortlist of hostels for Cardiff, actually! It also came highly recommended by Let's Go! (budget/student/backpacker travel guide, if you've never heard of it) so I'm glad to hear that I picked well! And thanks for letting me know about the booking thing. :D

Sherlock is awesome! I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

We'll miss each other in England! I'm going in April. We'll have to compare notes, lol. Have a fun trip!

I totally blame midassa_in_gold for getting me into it. She mentioned it in passing one day, and I got it for her for Christmas... she then subsequently made me sit down and watch it and the rest is history. Over 15K worth of words of history.

I needed time to raise money for fun over there, so August it is. You have fun too, and give me some travel tips!
