Author's Notes: Thanks to totally4ryo for the super-quick beta! This is a birthday gift for gingerlr (will not say that she's born on the same day as my father. will not, will not, will not...) and she let me play with her baby towels! I hope you like it darling! Now if you'll excuse me, I have table at a convention waiting for me!

Matt was the one who brought the issues to the others' attention.

"Mama Tosh is sad about something," he announced after Uncle Owen set him back in the basket.

The others flocked around him at this news, Takara rubbing at the tiny spot of missing fluff Uncle Owen had taken to make sure he was still healthy.

Uncle Owen cared like that.

"Why is Mama Tosh sad?" Angel asked, her little pink body twisting in concern.

"I heard Auntie Gwen say that she got stood up," Matilda said.

The statement sent the babies into a writhing mass of confusion.

"But Mama Tosh always stands up!" Tomos protested, still wrapped around George, blue and green almost blending together.

"Maybe it had something to do with that thing she had yesterday?" Brad suggested. "What did Tad Ianto call it?"

"A date," George supplied, the flannel edge rippling to cover the green corner of Tomos. "Like how Tad Ianto and Uncle Jack have dates."

"But what does being stood up mean?" Abbey wondered.

"It doesn't sound good!" Takara lamented. "Maybe Mama Tosh didn't have a good time!"

This thought was very upsetting to the eight babies. They loved their Mama Tosh. She should be taken care of like how she took care of them!

"I know!" Angel realized. "Mama Tosh's date didn't act like Uncle Jack and Tad Ianto do!"

George and Tomos shook their heads in sympathy.

"We can fix that!"

-----

Ianto and Jack watched the babies quietly revolt in their basket underneath Tosh's desk from the doorway of Jack's office. "They're up to something," Jack declared after a moment.

"They're babies, Jack."

"They're devious babies."

"Then they take after their Uncle Jack."

"Ha!" Jack defended, pointing at Abbey slowly crawling out of the basket. The little purple head turned this way and that before she slipped out, her partner in crime Brad close behind. "Told you!"

"Oh, they're fine," Ianto sighed, watching them play with Toshiko's shoe. "They're just playing with Mama."

The rest of the babies slowly started following the other two and playing with Tosh's heels. While Jack and Ianto watched, the technician swung her feet gently, teasing the babies a little.

One of her shoes slipped off and the sentient towels attacked the ball of her foot with a vengeance. Toshiko let out a shriek of laughter, hopping up out of her chair -- while being mindful of the babies -- before kneeling down.

"What are you up to, hmn?" she asked.

The babies writhed about and attacked in response.

The shrieks Tosh let out were so loud that they could have been worrisome if they weren't interspersed with laughter and threats to the babies. Gwen and Owen stopped what they were doing to watch Tosh get tickled nearly half to death by the multicolored towels. After about ten minutes they stopped and clearly snuggled into their short of breath Mama.

"Told you they were up to something," Jack told Ianto.

-----

"Mama Tosh is all red-faced and breathing hard!" Takara announced from her vantage point on Toshiko's chest. "She looks like Uncle Jack and Tad Ianto after their dates!"

The others let out little ripples of victory. They still didn't get what had happened, but Mama Tosh was happy again and that's all that mattered.

Humans were so strange sometimes.
