Author's Notes: Thanks so much to my darling betas totally4ryo and katestamps. Inspired by a conversation with totally4ryo over something she put in her fic "Thrice Blessed" (it's good, go read it). I've seen this in fandom before, but I'm not quite sure it would work on a dude. But the image is hysterical if you ask me.

The chemist looked up as two men came sweeping up the aisle toward him. They were both rather good-looking, young, dressed fairly nicely. Nothing like the kids he'd get in the shop these days, all baggy shirts and pants. It had been a while since he'd had someone under the age of thirty in a full suit in his store.

He pushed his glasses up his nose, looking at them. "Is there anything I can help you with, gentlemen?" he asked, giving them a winning smile.

The man in the greatcoat -- his father had owned one, wore it until the day he died -- spoke up first. "We're, uh... well..." he managed, looking suddenly abashed.

The younger man, the bloke in the suit, took pity on the other. "Where do you keep your home pregnancy tests?" he asked, calm as you like. He reached out and took one of the other's hands in his, twining their fingers together.

The chemist led them to the appropriate aisle, frowning inwardly. If they were a couple, why would they need a test...?

He selected one box and handed it over with a warm smile. "This is the best one we sell," he said, holding the box out. Both men stared at it, hesitantly, almost like they were afraid it would explode. After a moment, the kid in the suit reached out and took it tentatively.

"Surrogate think it took this time?" he asked, trying to get them to relax.

Both men tensed for a moment and looked over at each other. "Right on the money," the military man said, his American accent a bit more pronounced now that he'd spoken a full sentence.

He rang them up -- the younger kid paid -- and he waved at them. "Good luck!"

"Here's hoping," they both called back as the automatic doors slid shut.
