Changes....

We say we are a country ready for change and yet California and many other states have added a Gay Marriage BAN to their CONSTITUTIONS. How is this? How can we be a country that longs and begs for change and yet we sit here and deny those within this country that ability to change? The ability to have something that all heterosexual couples can ( Read more... )

Well, we just got our first black President. It was a long time in coming. It gives me hope that some day, gays will have the same rights as other couples.

--probably not in my lifetime, but some day. We'll still keep fighting, though.

And even though it won't be "legal", we're still having our ceremony. One of our dearest friends is an amazing spiritualist and she's doing the handfasting. We couldn't ask for anything more. We feel more blessed having her do the ceremony than we could ever hope for.

*sighs and shakes head* I just cant get my head around why anyone would want to BAN people from legally being in a loving relationship. The world is fucked.

Give it time though. I think a lot of younger people (our generation and younger) arent quite as conservative and anti-gay as older generations, so I think that by the time the kids that are being born now are old enough to vote, we might see change for the better in regards to this issue. At least I sincerely hope so.

...and while gay marriage is legal in Finland, it isnt at home in Australia, so you guys are still ahead of us.

I have to admit I was pretty sad as well, but then I realised that we have for the first time elected a president who supports civil unions. And we have a mostly democratic congress, most of whom also support civil unions. So, whether it's "marriage" or not doesn't really matter in my mind. The word is not as important as the rights, which I am praying are on the way soon, in whatever form we can get them. I understand separate is not equal, but even separate with some rights is a start ( ... )

Well, with a trifecta of democrats in the government now maybe things will start swinging in a more acceptable direction. Or maybe not, I still know plenty that were pleased with this particular turning of events, because apparently gay marriage will result in the Earth's destruction. *sigh*

Well, we don't know for certain if our marriage licences will be nullified or not. That issue has to go through the court system first.
