She just showed up. Thanksgiving evening after everyone left and the rain had ended I heard a faint meow in the backyard. I called “kitty, kitty” and she meowed in return but wouldn’t come out from behind the bamboo. she'd never win a beauty contest but she is fearless. I suppose her first few months of life living in alleyways toughened her up.

Cats who adopt you are often the best of the best. Fred lived 2 doors down the street but adopted us the day after his 1st birthday... and now he's 14! So glad Ruby found her rightful place in the world.
