I've been reading up all about real thatching techniques, and blackhouse roof-building too, but I expect dollhouse thatching is much easier. Involving glue, for instance. And no ladders and wind and rain while I'm doing it. Oh, but the things I've read, like how the roof ends up conforming to the shape of the thatcher's own body - it's all just wonderful. I'm going to make the rope netting system to hold it down too. It's going to be so much fun!
