i am safe in tepoztlan, this is very lovely, i am never as happy as when i am in a much simpler place, where conversation and meals and the market, where time and the weather move much more slowly. also i am not sure i will find cheese i love more than i love oaxaca

TEQUILA OMG. there has been some crazy tequila. mescal i think it was called? i don't remember much. it smelled like flowers. i have been drinking a lot of wine, which is actually much more wonderful than tequila, in the way that i have more consciousness in the moment!

i will find this place tomorrow! today we plopped down somewhere under the tents in the market and had quesadillas nommmm! but mostly we've been eating at home, SOPHIA, DOES ALL OF MEXICO SPEND THIS MUCH TIME EATING? IT IS UNREAL. I AM SO FULL OF WONDER.

Ooooh, DO! 'El Ciruelo' is right downtown, in Zaragoza street, quite near the market, and it is LOVELY. If you sit in the courtyard tables you get the best view of the Tepozteco. I had shrimp tacos in chipotle sauce last time I was there and DIED OF FOOD-JOY.

And, yes, OF COURSE we spent ALL the time eating! Like, literally, my family dinners go from 3.30 to 8 pm in various stages of eating, from appetizers to dessert.
