Three groups of screencaps from Napoleonic war movies:

Monsieur NSt. IvesTo the Ends of the Earth

Last night I watched and made screencaps of Monsieur N (2003), a fascinating movie about Napoleon's years in exile on St. Helena.  It was a French-made movie and was about 60:40 French and English (with subtitles for the French).  The screencaps don't really contain spoilers, but the movie does involve some mystery that I won't give away.

And a few samples:

Everyone's favorite Grand Turk plays several different ships in the movie

Admiral Cockburn, outgoing governor of St. Helena, being replaced with Sir Hudson Lowe (Richard E. Grant)

Jay Rodan plays the naive young lieutenant narrating the story

Monsieur N lui-meme (Philippe Torreton)

A very different movie with Richard E. Grant is St. Ives (1998).  It takes place mostly in Scotland where a captured French officer is taken to prison and falls in love with a local girl.  It's a delightful lighthearted swashbuckling romantic tale.

Finally, screencaps from To The Ends of the Earth (2005), a 3-part miniseries based on books by William Golding.  I only got around to capping the first part before I ran out of steam, but maybe I'll get around to the other two some time.  I wasn't terribly keen on it the first time I watched it, but since then it's grown on me with successive watchings and with reading the books.  Now I love it.  It's not really "lovable," but it's very interesting, though more for the human drama than the age of sail aspect.  And it's incredibly faithful to the books.
