I.
The first time, his control is broken, as if by a carefully-positioned hammer to a pane of glass. His actions are driven by instinct alone, and his back arches, blunt nails dig into skin, and a cacophony of sounds are pulled from his throat, moans, profanities, and an animalistic growl that he's sure the captain has never heard before. He does not last long, and the pleasure is more intense than anything he's ever felt.

When he wakes up, he panics, and runs from the room as fast as he can. He spends the next twenty-four hours in the fetal position, curled on the floor of his room, meditating to regain control of himself.

The captain makes his excuses on the bridge.

II.
The second time, he holds himself with an ironlike grip and lashes into his partner with a vengeance, as if to punish him for evoking emotions that he could not hope to contain. He is in control, he does not falter. Kirk takes longer than anticipated, but then, he has always reacted unpredictably.

Spock exerts his will over his body like a blacksmith bending iron, and his desire subsides. Kirk is hurt by it. Spock does not understand.

He makes Kirk's excuses on the bridge, and does not answer when queried regarding his absence.

III.
The third time was an anomaly. Spock had accepted death, knowing his time was up, and the Enterprise would not return. He experienced regret at never being able to convey his feelings. He experienced confusion at the realization that those feelings existed. He did not want to die.

Kirk makes the impossible possible.

That night, he allowed himself to be overtaken, stating to himself that it was something his captain needed, and he would not refuse in the face of that need. He did not want to accept the surge of emotion within him, and he had no words to explain the tears on his face as they came together, almost simultaneously. He had no words to explain the way his heart soared when Kirk rubbed his thumb across his face and said, "I'm so glad you're okay."

Doctor McCoy made their excuses that time, as they were far too wrapped up in each other.

IV.
The fourth time, Spock lost it. A week of nothing but being teased was past his limit, and considering the training he'd had to withstand such pressure, he did not understand how his partner was able to break him so effectively, while remaining unaffected himself. He lost control, and let his emotions take hold of him, taking over the captain with the suddenness and ferocity of a sandstorm. It took him time to realize that there had been no resistance, that Kirk gave himself over to him with smile and a keening moan that was putting up a stubborn effort to remain in Spock's conscious mind. He did not understand what made the difference.

Scotty made their excuses on the bridge, when he discovered them, sweaty and sated, on the floor of the exercise rooms.

V.
The fifth time, Spock knew that he was lost.

They rolled the waves of emotion together, their minds in sync, their thoughts careening and spiralling into something so dangerously pleasurable he thought he might explode. They felt love, like a tangible warm river ran through with electric current, and Spock did not once think the word 'control'. For the first time, it did not matter.

They made their excuses on the bridge, to a host of smiling faces that had no delusions about what had happened.

It was the crew of the Enterprise. They understood.
