Cookies.

As it turned out, Ashleigh's private cookie stash was completely exhausted. Which, honestly, was saying something since they'd just arrived at the school the day before. That was just her luck, though, wasn't it? It was a Saturday afternoon, Ed was on patrol, she had absolutely no papers to grade... of course she'd be out of cookies.

This cookie addiction wasn't new or in any way connected to the fact that she was pregnant and starting to resemble a house. She'd had this ... fetish, for lack of a better word, since she had been a small child.

She'd intended to settle down with a book but it wasn't like she could read without a snack, right? Not when it would be hours until dinner, not when she had a little life growing inside of her and an extreme lack of morning sickness ( ... )

Oh. Lovely. So, not only could Laurence not be cordial to a fellow adult, he most certainly couldn't be rude to a woman. Who was so friendly. And pregnant.

Despite the fact that she did not look quite like a house to Laurie, she was obviously with child and that made a usually unmovable part of him soften. He couldn't help it; knowing there was some innocent little being inside of her made him reluctant to be anything but kind.

After all, little alien-looking fetuses had never wronged him. The least he could do was be polite with their mothers (unless they were Death Eaters and in that case it was probably demon spawn anyway).

"Hello," he finally replied, giving her a simple nod and very, very small smile. Ah, the dreaded summer question. As she waddled next to him.

"It... was," he added, nodding again. "Productive summer?" he asked her, lifting a brow almost comically. But then he realized how improper that seemed, and he looked ahead of him sternly, studiously.

Ashleigh's smile was just as huge and just as bright as ever. Honestly, it was possibly brighter since most people seemed to tell her that she was 'utterly glowing'.

She had to waddle a little faster than normal to keep in step with him but she didn't mind. A part of her had almost missed his stern exterior. He was a part of Hogwarts, after all, and she'd certainly missed everything about the school over the summer.

"Very," she continued to grin. A slight blush warmed her cheeks when she realized just how 'productive' she'd been over the summer. "That's a little obvious, though." Pause. "I mean... getting ready for the baby and everything... clothes shopping, painting... I even tried to teach myself how to knit but I take to it about as well as I take to cooking."

She was rambling from embarrassment and her blush brightened ever so slightly when she realized that.

"Glad to be back at Hogwarts?"

((I've had most of this typed up for DAYS! Yes, I fail. :O))

Glowing, yes. She was, indeed, glowing. Laurence found the brightness about her endurable because of her current state; had she not been so glowy and obviously pregnant, he'd have likely found her annoying.

Her slight rambling was sort of a background as his eyes scanned the corridors, but that wasn't to say that he didn't hear everything that she said. He merely had very little to say in return. After all, he wasn't the likely sort to offer knitting or cooking advice, now was he?

"Anything worth doing right requires practice," he murmured, eyes darting sharply to the left as he saw a bit of movement. Seeing that it was only a passing student, he relaxed. "In a way, yes. I am pleased to be working a full-time location once more," he replied to her question, glancing once at her.

He'd hated the places he'd been sent over the summer. There was even one whole week in which he'd done little more than play bodyguard to a cursebreaker in North Africa. Laurence Doyle was not a bodyguard.

((LOL we all fail at points! :D No
