Emma, as much as she hated it, was caught up in all of this as well, and in a somewhat different way. She basically had the criminal record of every wizard or witch who committed so much as a misdemeanor sitting right in those cabinets behind her desk. It was her job to keep them organized and locked away unless otherwise necessary. So basically, if anyone wanted any information at all, she was the one to go through.
And yet she knew somehow that there were answers in those files. There had to be. In fact, in a change from her typical daydreaming, Emma was "organising" files. Read as looking through some of them for anything. It was then that she heard someone at the front desk. She closed the drawer quickly enough and turned to see who it was. "Oh! Hi, Lando. What can I do for you?
It was all so ridiculous. The world, how people were acting, just... everything. He'd barely been talking to his own family because of it and that killed him inside. He'd popped into see them, left small notes, but other than that... no real interaction. It was just safer that way.
He grinned just a touch at her reaction, head cocking to the side as he looked at her. "Hey, hey, no need to be so jumpy," he said with a small laugh. "It's nobody important. It's just me..." He paused before going on. "... and hi. How're you?"
Hey, no wrong in being polite, right? It was better than jumping right into asking for things he probably had no business taking.
Emma laughed a little, so relieved that it wasn't someone else. Right. She was just jumpy. She wasn't looking at files that weren't her business to look at for no reason other than she suspected something wrong. She definitely wasn't doing anything that could get her fired if she was caught.
"I can't help being jumpy. You know me, a little bag of nerves," she said. It wasn't necessarily untrue. Normally she let things roll off of her shoulders and spent her time dreaming instead, but when things got scary like they were now...she wasn't a fool. She should be nervous.
She walked over to him. "Hey. Don't you go saying you're not important," she said, giving him a smile. He was a sweet guy. He always had been. "I'm...surviving? How about you?"
