Evie's life had been nowhere near as stressful as Ash's had. Sure, she was worried about the students, about Ashleigh and Ed, about Michel...she spent a lot of time worrying. But she couldn't possibly imagine what it would be like to loose such a young family member. Especially in the way that they did. It wasn't fair for a child to have his life taken from him. It was just wrong.

And that was what she'd spent most of that Wednesday morning doing. Checking up on patients and worrying. She did manage to perk up slightly when she heard Ashleigh's voice call out to her. Huh. She hadn't even realized it was lunch yet.

"Ash, hello!" she said with a smile, coming out of her office and into the main hospital wing. "Of course you can, dear. Come on in."

Like Evie, Ashleigh spent a lot of time worrying.
She worried about Ed and Sam. She worried about Ed's parents, her father, Maible and her other students. Really, she worried about everyone other than herself and that was starting to become a bit obvious. She'd not been sleeping well or eating well. Though she wasn't very far along, she was pregnant, worn out and under nourished. It was insane but she'd even managed to lose weight since she'd seen Evie two weeks ago.

Which, honestly, was why she was here. Something had to be done. She couldn't keep going like she'd been going.

"There you are," she grinned when she finally laid eyes on the brunette.

She walked with more purpose in her steps as she closed the space between them. "How've you been?" she questioned as she neared Evie's office. "Busy?"

Yes. That was small talk. She'd obviously come to see her for a reason but now she was making small talk.

Evie returned Ashleigh's grin, but there wasn't much emotion behind it. One look at her blonde friend told her that she had another reason to be worried. Ash was pregnant. The last thing she should be doing was losing weight. That wasn't good for her or the baby. Not at all. And it was more than obvious that she hadn't been taking care of herself like she should.

Of course, Evie knew better than to try to pry anything out of Ash. If she wanted to talk, she'd do it in her own time, and that was that.

How had she been? "Stressed. Just like everyone else in this place," she said with an awkward sort of laugh as she indicated for Ash to sit down and did so herself. "Not incredibly busy, though. At least not with anything that important." Nothing so important that it would keep her from talking to her friend, at least.

"And you?" A question she knew the answer to, and also had a sneaking suspicion she wouldn't get a complete answer.

Ashleigh followed Evie into the office and took the offered chair. She'd been sitting all day but it felt good to sit again. The lack of sleep was making her quite lethargic, it seemed.

It was nice to hear honesty in Evie's answer. She was stressed... everyone was stressed. To the point and straight forward but not a pity party. (Not that Ashleigh wouldn't be there if her friend wanted to throw herself a pity party.) Oddly, the forwardness to the answer made it easier to be honest herself.

"Oh... I'm okay," she answered out of habit. Then she gave the nurse a smile that said she was lying. "I'm okay-ish."

She paused there as if she was waiting for the brunette to pull more of an answer from her but she decided to continue without any real prompt.

"My brother-in-law just passed away. I'm pregnant. My husband has been withdrawn. Life is full of stress. I guess that I'm as okay as a person in this situation can be."
