Back off, Babushka!

I've come to loathe the babushkas. Those old ladies who haunt the library, the grocery store, the farmer's market. They call after me, shaking their fingers and (somehow) pursing their faces instead of just their lips. They are the ones who want me to take better care of my child. Why? My friend Melissa's grandmother LOVED it when they were visiting and she would hear coming from the dining room, for example (to the child who couldn't sit up yet of his own accord):
If your mama put some socks on you you might could get warm!

M loves her grandmother, but still.

I always liked her tribute (read: imitation) of her grandmother cooking:
It needs more buttah.

Oh my, that is an exact and frequent quote from Sweetness' maternal grandmother. And mention of same, whether socks, sweater, more clothes generally, at any and every opportunity, with no prompting whatsoever. Well, of course, you've heard all about that from me before . . .
