[It was for a brief moment. A time when Blue had sat there, watching the kids play around with the sparkler fireworks as he stood in front of a grill cooking barbecue for the family at a day like this, and even shared some with the neighbors or any friends of his and Sakuya's to enjoy while they were ( Read more... )

Wait, really? Is that what's going on?

There is no other explanation that I can think of. Suddenly having memories not even your own is startling and, if anything, offensive. Either someone is trying to do a massive droning and failed or simply testing something or what other reason, the aftermath may not end well.

... generally speaking, being forced to be someone you're not. What would happen if they discover if their attempts did not work before?

Oh man! Is it gonna get worse? How can we stop it?

I don't know. But what I do know is that we'll need to be prepared. Who knows what may happen and that the droned populace would be under someone's control. We'll need to take the initiative and prepare ourselves.

Which is why I want you to come over here. I will train you as much as I can until it is obvious that we are in the clear... should anything happen to me, the you would at least know some knowledge and skills if you are on your own.

[A soft noise that could have been a sob.]

... this is what I believe is going on.

[He pauses for a moment to listen to the sobbing for him to say the next part with the most serious and stern tone.]

Terra, do not let them control you. Do not let them win over you. If you do, you may as well be dead. So fight it as much as you can.

I'm trying! I'm trying, but...!

[She pauses and tries to get control of herself. It isn't working very well.]

These memories... all of them... they're so real...

Your name is Terra Branford. You are a young woman not from this town, just as I am not from this town. The memories you have being here growing up to the point that are living right now is a lie. Do not buy into that lie. You know what the truth is, so do not let that lie become your truth.

It's not unlike having another mind invading your own, is it? Perhaps it is the Mystic blood speaking, but I've been affected to a lesser degree than others.

[A pause, as some nagging memory flits by unheeded.] ... I'll be there shortly. Perhaps an examination will yield some useful results, though it's more likely yet another trick by this town.

I'll inquire as to your personal state of mind when I arrive.

Exactly it. And if that were the case then perhaps my own mental training has lessened the effects it would normally inflict upon myself. That or I am just merely too stubborn for Mayfield's droning to be effective to begin with.

[He glances to side and places a hand over his head to try and resist any more of the memories coming at him.] Agreed. Bring as much and what you need on what you may think is necessary.

As though there were a doubt. [The doctor sounds amused, at least, as he hangs up. Several minutes pass before there's a knock on the door, the doctor waiting politely (for once) outside, traveling kit in hand.

For just a short moment, he seems... oddly distracted by nothing - Blue will likely recognize the symptom as similar to his own as Nusakan pushes aside some false memory.]

[Blue opens the door, expecting to see one of the few people he had called to show up. Thankfully it was one of them, although a flashback hit him of himself and Nusakan knowing each other since they were boys, but that instantly changed when he reminded himself that a back alleyway in Koorong was not a place for children, much less Nusakan's clinic.]

... Doctor.

[He side steps out of the way and motions Nusakan to enter inside with no other words spoken.]

It may be that they lack the capability to properly drone the entire town. Or they may simply be testing the precision of the skill.

[That they have the power to make memories of existing in Mayfield and never having been out of it tug at the corners of her mind when she grows the slightest bit inattentive speaks of a great degree of power.

But she is good at ignoring the bad memories that curl at the outer edges of attention.]

If you have regained abilities, they may provide a bit of proof to your own mind.

That may be just as likely as well on both cases. Even more so of a reason to get prepared for the worst case scenario...

[A brief image flashed in his mind. An image of himself shaking the hands of Bernkastel's 'father' after she was born in congratulations and watching her growing up over the years to be how she is now-- but that's when he placed a hand on his face and shook his head.]

I still have my magic. That will always stay with me and defines me of who I am. I won't let Mayfield take that away from me again. No matter how many lies this town tries to feed me, I'll never stop resisting them.

Taking away the identity of its captives could be an interesting game for it. This event may help to explain the dronings that often take place here, simply in smaller increments. Perhaps if it was possible they would simply remove the identities of everyone in town, and they cannot.

[She pushes away the urge to stop thinking, to relax because everything in Mayfield is fine, and always has been. Never stop thinking. To stop thinking is to die, and Bernkastel has no plans to die any time soon.]

Can be for a sadist and masochist for each side respectively if it were to be a game and frankly, I am neither. But you are right, it might explain but at the same time, bring more questions about it. We all can say the town is at fault, but how is it being controlled? And who is the one doing it? If anything, it frustrates me more that there aren't any answers given to the many multiplying questions.
