Just Finished The Vampire Lestat

To all of you who told me it was awesome: YOU WERE RIGHT. I can't get over how fun it was to read a narrative with mixed styles--one second, fancy eighteenth century language, another second modern slang. :) I love the ending so much, I'm afraid the shrieks I let out were slightly inhuman. Slightly. Especially when Lestat is reunited with Gabrielle ( Read more... )

YAY!!

That is one of my very favorite vampire books. For good reason. The way the lore spreads out through so many different cultures is fantastic; which means, you're right, it's impossible to avoid stepping on Ms. Rice's toes no matter which direction you take your own vampire mythos. Whatever you do, chances are she's done it already. Or at least thought about it.

Armand is a mystery. The one moment in the Chronicles that scared me the most was when Lestat walks in on him ransacking his library. It's such an invasion, the way Lestat describes him "sucking everything out of the books" without enjoying them. So creepy.

And now you can watch Queen of the Damned and share in the fan rage that results. Won't that be fun? :) (It is quite awful, but still entertaining if you can get past how many details are totally thrown out or changed.)

It's extremely disturbing. Like Armand was born with a black hole in his gut or something.

LOL, I watched it last night, in a fit of impatience. XD And, wow, it was really meh. I understand now what you meant by the music not really fitting. What was wrong with setting it in the 80's, like it was supposed to be? Stuart Townsend was okay, but . . . I dunno. Didn't fit my mental idea of Lestat. (Cruise didn't either, but his portrayal grew on me.) And, wow, I'm so annoyed they left out Gabrielle and Louis. Only part of the movie I really liked were the costumes, especially Akasha's. Haven't yet read the book Queen of the Damned, but it's next on my list.

Oh, sweet!! I strongly prefer Tom Cruise as Lestat too, Hollywood baggage aside. I truly think it's his best role, because it's the only time I bought him as properly becoming the character. As opposed to just being another action hero type role. (Excepting Tropic Thunder, which I'm counting only because the massive prosthetic makeup hides his features so well.)

By the way, I've recapped it! If you're interested. :)

The deal with the music is really frustrating. And to give credit where it's due, that didn't occur to me until I saw Maven's review here. The music just bugged me because I haaaaaaaate Korn.

I haven't seen many Tom Cruise movies, because he tends to get on my nerves, but I agree with you about his portrayal of Lestat. At first, I couldn't take Lestat seriously--but after a while, I forgot it was Cruise, and then the story became magical. Also made me realize he's a much better actor than I thought. Speaking of Tom Cruise movies, Knight and Day was awesome, since t it made fun of his usual action hero movie.

I am indeed interested. *dashes after link*

Not a Korn fan, either. I can only take so much growling. LOL.

Is this like a spin off of Interview with a Vampire?

It's a sequel. And everything makes so much more sense, because it explains a lot. :)

Gah, I don't remeber a thing from books. Shall read them again. I have stopped reading [and buying them] after The Tale of the Body Thief. Remember I was kinda disappointed with it.

Yeah, I heard a lot of negative things about the series as it got into the later books. But I'm really enjoying the first ones!
