One billion people on this planet live on less than a dollar a day. Between two and three billion live on less than three.

Let us say that these "poor" are not exactly below the median income.

Precisely. There are even poor in this country who, though they live far above the poor in other countries, they do not have half the amenities of most of the "poor" in this country
