Masks and polite untruths

Bruce drove himself.  It was nice to do that every once in a while.  And since it was the Lamborghini, it was perfectly in character for the billionaire playboy.  As were the stupid grin and vapid eyes as he goes up the the Desk Sargent (a horse faced woman) and start charming her as he's asking for how to find Commissioner Gorgon.  The woman ( Read more... )

"Interrogation room C." He gives Bruce a penetrating stare. "He's yours, then?"

"Well, given that I haven't seen him, I can't say for sure," comes the jovial reply. "And why is he in an interrogation room?" Brucie effects a look of worried puzzlement. "He's not a terrorist, is he?"

"Just a precaution. Kids can sometimes wreak havoc on a place just by being kids. I wanted him someplace where he wouldn't get into trouble, and it was either Interrogation or Holding. Somehow, I didn't think it was a good idea for him to be in close proximity with the likes of Crane and Zsasz."

Their lawyers would scream psychological torture, Jim thinks. He manages to keep his poker face, though. Barely.

"Oh! No, of course, you're quite right, Jim," comes the easy reply and stupid smile. "So. Um. Where is interrogation room three?" He asks, stuffing his hand in his pants pockets.

Not that Jim WOULD have put a child in Holding, but it's just as well. If the reports he got from Dick are accurate (and there's no reason fro them not to be) then Damian might do something very regrettable to those two.

Damian had figured his father would be in already. He decided to press his face up once more, as quickly as possible. He did not wish to look desperate but he was beginning to wonder how long the commissioner would keep him ( ... )

Bruce rounds the corner heading for the interrogation room. There, shouts, and a small shape running. Damn. But he knows this building, and he knows that if he goes this way, he can head the boy off before he gets tot eh stairs.

So it is that he's standing that as his son comes running towards him.

"Damian." This is not Brucie, it's the Bat, who is less then pleased. "I really hope you're not the reason the fire alarm is going off."

Damian visibly started, seeing his father waiting for him. He had assumed Father had abandoned him, and for once was pleased to find himself wrong. "Hello, Father," he said, trying to fish for the right words to say. "You returned. I thought you had left." It was as much an answer as he could give, without getting himself thrown back into a cell.

"I was talking to the Commissioner. That doesn't mean I "left'," Bruce says with a frown. He understands that Damian has some issues. Alfred had sat him down to talk at length about what the butler had observed in regards to the boy.

But that doesn't excuse poor behaviour. Especially if it endangers civilians. "Answer the question."
