Stannis / Selyse

Based on the show canon, in wich they are married during the siege of storm's end. He thinks she is about to die and feels guilty for not have being able to protect her, like he swore the day of their marriage. Stannis lowers his defenses while talking to her because he thinks that she doesn't hear him, or something like that.
Bonus for hero smuggler at the gates!!

Farewell to Someone Unloved

Selyse had never been beautiful, but she had been a decent woman. Yet now the woman was pale and withered, her hair brittle at touch. Renly, a child, was gaunt and thin but he still had the energy to beg for mutton stew. Selyse was different.
"Are you going to die?" Stannis asked. She was sleeping, her chest very faintly rising and falling under her heavy green dress. He thought to maybe touch her face and rouse her, but what was the point? If she died, no words would ease her way into darkness.
"It would not be very prudent of you to die," he told her. "I will have to take another wife, and marriage is not something I'm keen to do again." Selyse slept.
"Our union has not been a happy one," Stannis admitted. Selyse said nothing. "I do not love you and you do not love me. We both know that." The blanket only reached her waist. He pulled it up to her throat and belatedly decided to tug it back down a bit. He didn't think she should be too warm. "And you...no, we failed at our duty to birth an heir

And Stannis is always so.... Stannis !!
This line ""It would not be very prudent of you to die," he told her. "I will have to take another wife, and marriage is not something I'm keen to do again." is perfect.

And this "He rose and followed, not noticing that Selyse's dry fingers curled where his hand had been" breaks my heart!!
