I have to say, I think this situation was handled very well. It sounds like the principle wasn't being a jerk (like school officials can be) and just wanted to make sure that everything was okay. I'm also glad that it turned out okay in the end. This definitely could have been handled a whole lot worse, and historically when a school administrator gets into the news it is handled worse.
Yeah, this could have gotten really out of hand. The article also doesn't say anything about how the student's classmates were responding. The mall security people sounded like they just made some stuff up so they could harass the guys --- who freaking bought the anti-war t-shirts at that self-same mall. That's not just stupid for rent-a-cops abusing their power reasons, it's bad for business! The best thing those guys could do is return their shirts in a very public manner, and then make their own anti-war clothing. Sadly, that mall and other stupid businesses aren't likely to change their policies unless they start losing money for being idiots.
not to defend the mall or anything but they had the shirts made custom at a shop there, so it's not like they were selling anti-war shirts at the gap and then kicking out the people who bought them.
but still it's one of the more retarded things i've heard lately. almost as retarded as "freedom fries."
