While she didn't recognize the man, Alice recognized the kitten with him, and she stopped for a moment to stare.
"Does Eden know you've got her cat?" she asked bluntly. Maybe she'd given it away. Maybe Babe had. It couldn't hurt to ask.

She was way out of her depth when it came to love. Guys who even came close to being someone she could care about that much usually died before anything had the chance to happen. Her last relationship had been with Spence Parks, for God's sake, and he'd ended up a traitor. A traitor who had brought about the apocalypse, no less.
"I guess it's hard to say it to someone who turns out not to be who you thought they were," she said, her eyes slightly unfocused. She probably wasn't talking about Eden and Babe. Probably.
