CORNBREAD FOR BAKERS WITH THEIR WEE FLOATIES STILL ON

May 01, 2011 20:54

In the future, when I publish that novel I'm poking around on, and my main character space pilot from Space/A Space Farm Planet Farm Corn From Space is obsessed with his ma's cornbread, this is the cornbread I'm talking about. Not that box mix 100% nonsense, or anything with sour cream mixed in (sour cream is fine, I use it for things, like sour ( Read more... )

THIS SHIT SOUNDS SO GOOD I WANT TO HAVE IT EVERYDAY. PREFERABLY MADE AND SERVED BY YOU. IN PERSON.

\o/

I have sallied forth to the local free-range poultry farm and pursuaded them, AFTER MORE DISCUSSION THAT I THINK WAS NECCESARY, to give me bits of dead bird in exchange for cold hard cash (IDEK why this was so complicated for them). And now I have the coarsest polenta I had in the pantry soaking in buttermilk (thank fuck - it was on special at the shops yesterday and I bought far too much, so there will be cake tonight as well). Which will take me up to about 11pm, just in time for midnight baking, huzzah!

I'm not sure I'll have enough light brown sugar, and because you made the distinction I shall be good and not use the dark brown sugar instead. I will buy more light brown, because I am obedient and because I'm always happy with an excuse to loiter in the baking aisle, and also try to find my camera so I post proof of life cornbread later on...

FFFFFFFF...no pictures. It did not last long enough for pictures. Unless you want an artistic interpretation of crumbs? The good news is that, having waxed lyrical about the cornbread to my sister, she has demanded that I drive 300km this weekend and bake the cornbread for her, and I said yes because I am a good sister (and not because she is pregnant and slightly scary). And next time I will have my shit together to take photographs before the cornbread is reduced to a scatter of delicious crumbs.

(there was chocolate cake, and there were banana pancakes, and if I had a pig I would bath it in buttermilk like Mrs Zuckermann tells Fern to do with Wilbur)
