The split between the novice and master division made it harder for characters in the master to get CR with others not from the series. :( I was the one who suggested the division too, wasn't I? Hurk...
I also think the next one would work better if it was like Battle City? With duelists wandering around? Then moving to another location to participate in finals, just in case there's another lapse of other events.
Overall, I liked it! It helped me get the ball rolling on some important characterization stuff I wasn't sure how to start. And with the DM cast discussing synchros and other shiny cards, I doubt that next tournament will be a complete landslide for Rua.
Because seriously, if Yuugi had Secret Village of the Spellcasters or Arcanite Magician, Rua would have been up the creak without a paddle.
This is why I didn't want to actually duel, but plan the winner and then write interesting scripted duels. Because I as a mun SUCK at dueling compared to Alastair. He'd have my soul in three turns at most. So if he wants to win, he has to win by dice roll/numbers/decision and not my pathetic dueling skill. :3
This is an unhelpful comment. I just wanted to say that.
Aha, I'm the opposite. I liked the fact I could actually duel instead of script them out, because I really, really suck at writing them. I'm very happy that the tournament allowed for both, and I think that next time it's something that should definitely carry over.
In similar vein to my suggestion and keeping up the train of thought about dueling... Maybe a little bit more planning in the area of actual dueling would help, too? Like a set method of rulings we could all agree on, because anime rulings make it a little unbalanced? Especially if people are going in with their actual decks. And ICly, Yuugi wouldn't know he could play two traps in one turn. OH MANGA Y U SO CRAZY
Also, if we took the Battle City method, could we still have randomized and planned matches OOCly, but ICly it'd be "A WILD KAIBA APPEARS"?
There is very little to change, really, the tournament went off really well. I would support the Battle City style tournament just to shake things up, which is sort of how Kaiba rolls anyway - his tournaments were never the same way twice.
But yes, we should clarify card rulings universally just in case. I know Kaiba had a few cards he was using anime rules on...I didn't have that problem personally but yeah. I think, it's possible to handwave the instruction of said Battle City Rules by claiming "it's in the information packet that you got when you registered." But making sure the differences are laid out OOCly will help know what should be in that info packet ICly, I guess? IDK.
I was trying to divide it a bit by who would duel and who wouldn't this time around. However, when you get up towards the finals everyone just gets mashed together. There are two issues I see with dividing the tournament like that (please let me know if you see a way around them
