Hello again, GDS, I come bearing questions. Drunken questions!!

What, if any, is your character's religious affiliation? Are they devout or lapsed? How does their faith (or lack thereof) shape them? Do they believe they have been granted powers by the obscure Egyptian god Khonshu?
Per usual answer as much or as little as you want, you cannot be ( Read more... )

this is not a meme, question, questions of a deep & meaningful nature, alex queen of questions, alex: secretly matt fraction

ZATANNA has no official religious affiliation. In the DCU Heaven and Hell and Purgatory all exist and she's aware of it. "God," also does and there's a Hierarchy of Hell (it's something I don't want to get into because it is still easy to speculate how it fully works and why heroes who have seen them do or don't believe in this or that, etc.). BUT ANYWAY, Zeus and the Quintessence have been known to be pretty fond of Zee and she's probably one of the few close enough to the Phantom Stranger to be considered a friend in that he at least trusts her beyond most others.

Zatanna has faith, but it's not in anyone in particular. c:

ANDY is Jewish. But his devoutness really varies; when he wanted to get out of going to Iraq, he went to Rabbinical school. When he thought he could get out of it, he immediately dropped all food laws and didn't care in the slightest. Basically, to him it is more a heritage than a religion.

I think he believes in God, but only when he needs something.

Jaime's a Roman Catholic, but more of the cafeteria variety. He doesn't make it every Sunday, but makes a point of going when he can, especially on HDOs. He's not very well-researched in his faith, sticking to it mainly out of familiarity and the closeness to his family he feels from it, but he does believe there is a God. He just hasn't figured out how multiple dimensions fit into it yet.

Zel doesn't stick his nose into too many religious things unless they directly involve his magic. Using spirit-based spells doesn't seem to require any kind of tribute or adherence to a faith, so he doesn't bother. The gods of his world are very real, but fairly distant from his life. Except the demon god who just happened to be sealed in his grandfather's eyes, I mean.No religion for Blue; I don't think there was any of that in his world. Not unless it helped Superior Domination. He's not entirely sure what to make of it here, what with it being so varied and pretty much up to the individual to choose. The community bonds developed from different ( ... )

Peter, being Irish-American, comes from Protestant roots (contrary to popular conception, he's not actually Jewish!) but is only religious in the most wish-washily casual fashion. He's been known to pray in a desultory sort of "Hey God are you there? It's me, Peter," way, but really if he's an adherent to anything it's rational humanism.

The website The Religious Affiliation of Comic Book Characters has a really long compilation of evidence for and discussion of Peter's religious background -- there's a lot of chaff in there, but it's still worth a read if you're interested in the topic.

Loki worships himself!! In Marvel there's kind of a pan panthon thing going, and yeah not sure how to explain exactly but there is significant if not frequent interaction, well, mostly the Norse and Greek pantheons but the Egyptian + other pantheon as well. But that's not really faith or religion, that's… interacting with peers ( ... )
