There was a crapload of wind, a great big cracking noise, and then I see this huge branch/trunk/woody thing breaking away from the tree in the neighbour's yard and slowly settling over the sidewalk in front of me just a few slabs away.

'Hm. Good thing I didn't leave a few seconds earlier, or walk a bit faster.'
