It's interesting how the glassware used can effect the taste of the brew.
Proper glassware for the style is the lesson I'm working on right now (i.e. not *every beer needs to be served out of a chilled pint glass).

But yes, when trying new brews/styles, it is important to get the beer out of the bottle for proper enjoyment. Even a chilled pint glass is better than the bottle.

yea. i may start looking into that. come to think of it, do you have any good resources on the subject? bigstar is having a tasting gathering next wednesday and the shopkeep invited me up [i blow too much cash up there.]

as for the saison, it was a dull roar of flavors, strange start for about an 1/8th, potent for about 1/2 and then a argumentative fade out for the last 3/8's. i fucking like it, and wish it wasn't 15 bucks for the accursed bottle. anything under 10 and i'd pick it up now and again.

Some of my faves are $15-$20 a bottle.
The curse of the epicurean...

As for the glassware, I'm just getting into that, and only beginning to build any sort of contacts network or list of places to go. I'll keep you posted as I find more info, however.

truly. i hope to find a decent saison under $10. this is the first i've wanted to come back to a style. perhaps it's simply because it's the first i've looked up. that tends to be the curse of anything that pops your cherry. however, the description that it defies normall judging of beers and that the brewers just have to sort of 'hope' they're going to wind up with a good one, that rings well with meh.

no worries on the glassware. the pages are out there and are an easy enough sort to find.
