Summary: Now that Mary Anne Spier and Chad Shelten are dating, her step-sister Dawn finds herself wanting to get back into the dating scene. It's perfect timing when the new cop in Chad's office, Kevin, takes an interest in her. But Kevin's got a complicated past that could get in the way of their new relationship.
Author's Note: Yes, this is another delightful crack pairing from toxic_corn and myself! If you're brave enough to read, then we salute you! So have you guys seen Nathan Fillion's appearance on Lost, as Kevin the cop? Yeah, well I figured he'd be the perfect guy for Dawn, especially after Kate jacked him around like she did, and hence, this sequel to Your Boyfriend Snorts Cocaine, Mary Anne was born.

Round Up Post

Oh, it's definitely getting serious between them. For the last few weeks she's either stayed at his place or he's stayed here. But he only stays here when I'm at Chad's for the night. He told Dawn that the last thing he wants to do is get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and run into Chad in nothing but his underwear.

Kevin felt a shove against his shoulder and cracked an eye open, hearing his alarm clock blaring. The early morning sun was shining into his bedroom, and the scent of Dawn's hair wafted to his nostrils.

"Turn it off, Sleeping Beauty!" Dawn moaned, burying her face into her pillow. With a chuckle, Kevin reached out and flicked the alarm switch to off.

"Morning, Ms. Schafer." he murmured drowsily, rolling towards her. "How did you sleep?"

"Mmmm, good. I had this really vivid dream about having my way with an LAPD officer." She threw him a lazy smile as she stretched her arms over her head.

"Oh that was no dream, Sunshine." he replied with a wicked grin.

"Ooooh, so you're the reason I'm delightfully achy."

Chuckling again, he stretched too. "Guilty as charged." Then he rolled towards her and kissed her sweetly.

"Morning." she whispered as they parted, her bright smile lighting up the room as much as the sunshine through the window was.

"Morning." came his reply, before he rolled back and let out a sigh. "Man, I don't want to go to work today."

"Then don't. Stay here with me." She cuddled into his chest to try and convince him.

Pulling her close, he said, "Oh I want to, believe me, but I've got so many cases backed up at work..."

"Yes, but I really need to be sexed uuuuuuup." She pressed a series of kisses to his chest, all the while giggling.

Kevin let out a whine. "You're so enticing! Damn you, sexy woman!"

Propping her head up on her fist, she circled a finger around his nipple. "Yeah, I'm evil. But that's only because I'm crazy about you." She finished the sentence off with a smile.

He smiled back. "Same here, Loony."

Dawn pouted rather cutely. "That's not a very nice name."

"Oh, I'm sorry." He paused to kiss her. "I didn't mean it." He kissed her again, then rolled her underneath him. "Really." He placed more and more kisses along her neck, jaw, and face.

"I guess I can forgive you, then." she replied, kissing him back and running her fingers through his hair.

He gave her one long, hot kiss, before pushing himself up quickly. "Good!" Then he hopped out of bed before she could drag him back. "I really don't want to go, but I have to." He pouted before moving over to his dresser.

With a disappointed sigh, Dawn started looking around for her clothes.

"Wanna do something tonight?" Kevin asked, pulling clothes from the dresser for after his shower.

Standing up to slide on her panties, she nodded. "Sure. What'd you have in mind?"

"No idea. You can call me after I get off work with ideas."

"Okay." She fastened her bra, slipped on her dress, and started fingercombing her hair.

He came over and wrapped her up in his arms. Then using a bratty kid voice said, "I hate my stupid job, working with stupid Shelten."

Turning around, Dawn nuzzled her nose against his in an Eskimo kiss. "I love your stupid job because it helped me find you."

Chuckling, he nodded. "That's true."

"You've got me falling hard for you, Callis." Wrapping her arms around his neck, she gave him a real kiss.

Kevin grinned widely. "You say the sweetest things." But then he looked at the clock and shoulders slumped. "Ok, I gotta get a shower now or I'll be late." Wrapping an arm around her waist, he added, "Let me see you to the door, Ms. Schafer."

"Such a gentleman, giving me the bum's rush." she giggled good-naturedly.

"I'm a smooth operator." Opening the door, he said, "Have a good day."

"You, too." Giving him a goodbye kiss, she finally pulled back to say, "I know your job is really boring but it's important so do your best." She gave him an encouraging smile that made his heart swell.

"Thank you. You should be a career counselor."

She swatted his chest affectionately. "Yeah, yeah. See ya, Kev."

"Bye, Sunshine."

At the station, Kevin was waiting for the elevator to come, and couldn't help but overhear a bit of the conversation going on next to him. Three men also waiting for the elevator were discussing a dangerous female prisoner being transported via plane from Australia to LA. She'd be held temporarily in the station's jail before being transported to Iowa to stand trial for arson, robbery, murder, and about a dozen other charges.

One man whistled. "She did all that? Hard to believe a pretty, young thing like her could be capable of all that."

"Well, you know what they say: A person's capable of anything." said another.

Kevin shifted impatiently, wishing the elevator would hurry up. Hearing about fugitives made his heart race.

"Guess so." the first man conceded, while the third asked, "What's her name again?"

"Kate Austen." the second man, who was holding her mugshot, answered.

His stomach churning painfully, Kevin looked over at the mugshot the guy was waving around. It was her. Monica. Or Kate. Whoever... it was her. His ex-wife.

"E-Excuse me?" Kevin asked, his voice strained. "You said she's coming here, to our jail?"

"Yeah." one answered. "Just until that U.S. Marshal who nabbed her gets clearance to take her back to where she committed the murder. Most serious charge, you know."

Kevin could only nod silently, struck dumb with panic. She was coming back. What was he going to do?

The entire day he was in a daze. He had a headache and stomachache simultaneously, he couldn't focus on anything, and Chad had even suggested he take off early because he looked like he was going to 'blow chunks.' Kevin decided he must really look like hell if Chad Shelten of all people was telling him to go home.

So he took the man's advice and went home early. Falling back into bed, he stared at the ceiling. He decided that he had to see her in the jail. He didn't know what he'd say, whether he'd say he forgave her (which he was pretty damn sure he hadn't), or whether he's say she'd ruined his life and turned him into a bitter, untrusting guy.

Rolling onto his side, he decided he'd have to see her before he'd know what to say. He fell into a restless sleep, only to be awoken by his cell phone two hours later. He saw that it was Dawn and hit the 'end' button, sending her to his voicemail. He didn't know what to say to her either.

The next day, Kevin was a nervous wreck. He wasn't sure if Kate's plane had come in yet or not, so he headed over to the jail to ask one of the guards.

The first one he came across was sitting at his desk, leaning back with his cup of coffee in hand, staring at a TV screen bolted to the wall across from him.

"Pardon me, I'm looking for a prisoner."

"Prisoner's name?" the guard asked, never once looking away from the TV.

"Kate Austen." Kevin answered. Otherwise known as Monica Callis.

The guard turned his eyes to Kevin and gave him a look of disbelief. "You mean the fugitive captured in Australia?"

"Uh... yes."

Leaning forward, the guard shook his head. "Don't you listen to the news, man?" At Kevin's confused expression, the guard pointed to the TV. "Look!"

Kevin turned and saw that it was tuned to CNN. There was a map of the Pacific on the screen, with a red dashed line running across from Australia. Across the bottom of the screen it read, Oceanic Flight 815 crashes in Pacific Ocean. All lives thought to be lost.

His mouth dropping open, Kevin turned back. "But she's not-- do they know if that was her flight?"

Nodding, the guard slid a paper across his desk to read. "The crash happened late last night, our time, so by this morning we had confirmation that she and the U.S. Marshall had gotten on board."

Forget his stomach churning; Kevin's intestines were trying to twist themselves in a knot. He whirled around and, on shaky feet, raced to the elevator. Once safely up on Internal Affairs' floor, he slipped past his collegues and went into his office, locking the door and drawing the blinds. Finally collapsing in his chair, he covered his face with his hands, so in shock that he didn't realize when he started crying.

*****************************************

That night, Dawn called Kevin for the third time in two days. She usually wasn't one of those girlfriends who'd constantly call her guy, but after Chad had told her that Kevin looked sick or something at work, she had gotten worried. Add to that the fact that he'd left again early that day, and she was afraid he'd come down with something. She got his voicemail again and let out a sad sigh, hanging up. She wouldn't pester him with a ton of messages, as she'd left two already, but she wished he'd call her back to let her know he was ok.

*****************************************

Kevin sat on the couch, downing his fourth beer and watching the continued news coverage of the plane crash. He had shut his cell off hours ago, and had taken his home phone off the hook. He knew he was wallowing around in depression. That it had been three years since she had left him, and most everything she'd told him during their marriage was a lie. But that didn't mean that he hadn't loved her with all his heart.

How was he ever going to move on and love again?
