That Michael Joyce profile in "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" is amazing... I remember reading it in its original form in Esquire magazine. Wallace was himself quite a talented player in high school; he describes brilliantly in the essay the difference between the disparate levels of competition in the tennis world, and why it's such a wonderful sport to watch. I've been hooked on it for years, even though my playing could best be described as quite ordinary.
