I've been meaning to post this excerpt for a while. From one of my favorite authors, David Foster Wallace [a site], out of his doorstopper of a novel, Infinite Jest. In short: it's about some kids at a tennis academy for geniuses, and various addicts at a halfway house, linked by some Canadian terrorists' search for a video that drives people

That Michael Joyce profile in "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" is amazing... I remember reading it in its original form in Esquire magazine. Wallace was himself quite a talented player in high school; he describes brilliantly in the essay the difference between the disparate levels of competition in the tennis world, and why it's such a wonderful sport to watch. I've been hooked on it for years, even though my playing could best be described as quite ordinary.
