I adore this book so much, I kept it on a pillow on my bed for months as I could just sink into the words before sleeping. Such gorgeous writing and I must see the film again, it's been so long since I originally saw it. I really want the special edition dvd :)
Such gorgeous writing Oh man, is it ever. I finally figured out that it reminds me of The Handmaid's Tale in that respect. Could you recommend anything else with that level/kind of writing?
I really want the special edition dvd :) Ooh, yes. The version we rented was the no-frills, and I actually sputtered when I saw there were no extras on the menu.
I really cannot think of any other books I've read that have the same level of intensity and descriptions that this book has. It's just wonderful. I spent weeks thinking about Kip as I remembered scenes from the film and re-reading the book with the mental images of Naveen Andrews was wonderful.
I might ask for the special edition dvd for Christmas or something but it's really cheap at the moment so I should just buy it when I have some spare money but me being a student, that's not very likely, haha.
Oh all fnckin right! I can't find TEP on the boards so it'll have to be a trip to the PL fercrissssakes. There's a book? I'll try that too while I'm at it. A two-fer. To be quite honest, I was intrigued by the movie TEP but too many people said it was a huge wankfest or something. Chickflick, the words were used, if memory serves. Is there any hitoric value to either the book or movie?
PS. If this post was an excerpt, then I'm in. I find foreign language terms explained in English appealing.
There's a book?. Yep. Booker Prize winner (which I know nothing about, but signals that it is Of The Good); movie was based on it. I thought the movie was excellent and intelligent; it is about a doomed relationship, but it's about as far away from stupid "romcoms" as it's possible to get. As for historic value/characters, and my favorite quote from the book, see last post. I also put up a link to a bio of real-life Almasy. The July '36 and winds quotes are used in the movie.
Stupid + romcom isn't always the case, although, must admit the majority of them make the generalisation almost true. ...And I enjoyed Love Actually! (:
