I totally understand.

I used to work in an office where the same thing used to happen all the time. I wish I'd thought of that solution.

We have an over-abundance of chairs around here.
Opposite problem!

Only time we ever have an issue is when some of the department head who are very picky go around and try to find chairs of a matching type so things are more coordinated for guests. But they usually won't take one from a person's desk. It's your extra office chair they seem to be after.... :)

Ja ja ja... Lo de este chico no tiene nombre. Se sienta dos puestos a mi derecha. Tiene otros hábitos curiosos como mecer la cabeza atrás y adelante sin parar y no lavarse las manos jamás cuando va al baño

LOL that reminds me of my university where (the most ordinary) chairs got moved from one classroom to another all the time.

It's good that people at your office don't carry their chairs with them each time they move away from their desks! :)

I heard about an office where nobody had a fixed seat and they had just a small wheeled platform. It was forbidden to keep chairs nor tables...
