We have a winner

Spain has finally chosen Soraya and the song "La noche es para mí" as TVE's representative for the ESC.
The song is very topical, I think. Judge yourself

It's full of ESC topics... Well, at least it's somewhat decent, although there's still this trend of mixing Castillian with some English. Oh well

spain, esc

Excelente, and streets ahead of previous Spanish entries. Lively choreography too, although those boys will have to watch out for the little under-arm problem before they hit the Moscow stage!

Muchas gracias!

Oh, I just found that the UK chose as well.
The song is very Lloyd-Weber and the singer is great. But is it time for another ballad?

Yes, it probably won't get nul points, but I don't think it's a winner. My current favourites are Norway and Poland.

I liked Melody better for Eurovision.

But she can't sing. I mean, the dance was spectacular (something Spain desperately needs) but the flamenco-like stuff, unless extremely innovative (Bandido in 1991 by Azúcar Moreno was that) is a no-no for ESC

Butn what Melody is at least very Spanish.

What Soraya is doing is so generic and so expected. It is what all other countries will do.

But yeah, I guess it is what wins the competition nowadays.

It really did seem like Azucar Moreno with all the heat drained out of it.

Oh for crying out loud, MUST we start in on the ESC idiocy so soon after the last one?

Well, it's something hardwired in us. I've been watching the ESC since I was a kid

Yeah, I know.

And, just for clarification, my rant was aimed at the fact that the process has started all over again, not at the fact that you were commenting on it. :)

Hehe, sure :) But you know, this is like very weird to people who aren't European. And I'm from the "I'm not taking this too seriously" school of thought. I know a few integrists who would sell their mother before admitting that the contest is pure silliness!

I'll tell you the truth -- I've been following the Spanish final and this is the one I wanted to win. I quite like it.

Though the lyrics ARE, admittedly, kinda dopey. Still, I do like this song.

The lyrics are completely zero :)

So far I think this year the level is quite good. I'm impressed with most countries' entries

Yeah, it kinda reeks of desperation when you have to rhyme "cruz" with "tabus" ^^;;;

Well, it does rhyme according to the spanish rules (this is "rima asonante")

The phrase "clávame en tu cruz" was popular thanks to another OT product: Chenoa

Yo no digo que sea buena. España no ganará jamás Eurovision. Pero este año es una entrada que considero decente. A mí la cantante no me desagrada, tiene dos CDs con versiones de canciones de los 80 que está realmente bien.
