So a canvasser goes to a woman's door in Washington, Pennsylvania. Knocks. Woman answers. Knocker asks who she's planning to vote for. She isn't sure, has to ask her husband who she's voting for. Husband is off in another room watching some game. Canvasser hears him yell back, "We're votin' for the n***er!"
Woman turns back to canvasser, and says brightly and matter of factly: "We're voting for the n***er."
it's like we've become not racist enough that we can elect a black president, but are also so oblivious and dumb that we can elect a black president and still be totally racist.
i think it's largely a media saturation thing. people have seen obama on tv enough that they're not really scared of him.
this obviously isn't the case for the crazies in the sara palin rally videos. but i think its hard for a lot of people to see obama on tv as much as they do, saying mostly things they like to hear, and still think "muslim" or "black militant" or see him in the same way they might think of other black people, even if they're pretty racist.
apparently there is a phenomenom in some parts of the country of white children referring to all black men they see as "obama," which i also do not know what to think of.
