This is too familiar. I absolutely want to take that class and get lost in music, and at the same time I feel like that will just swallow up what little else I do only to be swallowed in turn.

It's on Thursday; older friend? Vicky? Also she's the girlfriend of an old buddy of ours from high school--it's a small world.

You are immeasurably excellent. This is exactly how Latin is going at the moment, and I love it. I love it most, I think, because when learning a language (or an instrument, for that matter), we have no choice but to submit to the dictates of that system, accept it as completely correct even if it makes no sense, even if its conventions were established by people who believed in Lares and Penates. Which is so refreshing to an English major who can't shake the callow assumption that her literary opinions are worthless if not completely original. (Realizing that this is false has made essay-writing far less tortuous, but still.)

Systems! Externally imposed systems! Submit to them if they make you happy and produce beautiful music. I love you and will send your letter once I find an envelope.
