Connie Rubirosa couldn’t get used to the palm trees outside her office window. She wasn’t used to the abundant sunshine, either, or the number of cars on Los Angeles freeways.
She sort of missed the gray, New York days as the skyscrapers blocked sunlight from reaching the street. She missed the subway and the sight of dozens of Yellow cabs jockeying for position.
Local restaurants served health food or sushi instead of pizza and pastrami. There was a taco stand outside the courthouse instead of a hot dog cart.
Connie needed a familiar comfort. She dialed his number.
