groups at UW must take trips! maybe not the band, but i'm sure there are smaller clubs that have retreats.

I know how you feel. I look around me at the adults in my life, and I realize that even if they're happy, even if they have plenty of friends and a work situation they like, they don't do that sort of thing. Every once in a while some twenty-something person or another will take some big trip with a friend or two. And yeah, they have fun, but it's really not the same thing. People over 35 have their friends over for dinner or something. The biggest non-family, non-work gathering my parents have ever been to (to my knowledge) was my step-father's 50th birthday party (tons of friends over etc.) but still it was a dinner party, you know? I dunno. There's something carefree about those trips that I just don't think we'll ever quite accomplish again.
