The sound of breaking glass was the only warning Aziraphale had before a small, hard red ball smacked him painfully on the back of his head. The angel cried out in pain and staggered forward, throwing his arm out to catch himself on a rickety bookshelf.
The bookshelf wobbled precariously for a moment or two, and Aziraphale watched in a dazed horror as the shelf fell forward, knocking the one opposite over; hundreds of old books spilled across the shop in a cloud of dust.
Aziraphale resisted the urge to smite the demon there and then.
Sports were Crowley’s invention.
