I think people who respect them and know how to use them properly should have the right. It's in the Constitution. On the other hand, my mother wants to own a gun, just because she can, and she doesn't really respect their seriousness and the thought scares the ever-loving shit out of me. I mean, she couldn't remember for 30 seconds not to point it in anyone's direction in the gun shop. I fear what she'd do with one out in the world.
I voted "no" at every question but I was raised in a country that doesn't allow guns (except for registered hunters and of course policemen for instance), which influenced my opinion. I just don't think that owning a gun for one's protection is very efficient and worth the risk of accidentally shooting someone innocent. But had I been born and raised American, I might think different!
I've actually been thinking about buying a gun and/or going to a shooting range and learning how to take care of and fire guns. I'm just not sure if I want a gun in the house or not.
But my parents wanted to buy a gun because they're neighborhood has turned a little sketchy since houses were so cheap there. (we're talking police helicopters and spotlights over a house one night) So first they get to a gun range and try out different ones and do lots of shooting practice. I'm fairly sure the gun is kept in a safe location, possibly locked up, and the bullets are not stored in the gun EVER.
BUT I am of the opinion that if you want to own a gun you need to take some sort of class. Whether its informal or not. Heck, if you go to a gun range the good ones should ask if you've shot before and someone will come in with you and give you pointers. I know they did that for me when I first went..
Yeah, the range I went to had a gun safety course for about $300, which taught everything from basic gun safety, to shooting, to cleaning, etc. I'm waiting till I can afford the course before I start shooting or decide to possibly buy one.
Oh yeah knowing how to clean a gun is important in ownership. The one I went to has a sort of ladies night where the gun rental is free, all you have to do is buy ammo and the target. Which is great for beginners.
