I have no idea what's going on with Stefan. My best guess is he doesn't take kindly to his mind being violated? Lingering issues with Katherine raping his mind and body. I don't think that's something he's ever quite gotten over.

But mostly I'm all about Elena right now. How his actions are messing her up and her twisted thing with Damon. Which I must carpmintalize a lot because this show things sexual assult is romantic.

A lot of people have pointed out that he's likely given up all hope of ever getting his old life back at this point so the only thing he really CAN cling to is his revenge against Klaus.

ME TOO. Elena is my bb girl. <3

The compulsion thing at the end, though? WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT YOU GUYS I have so many issues with the idea of compulsion, I can't even.

Well to be fair, I don't think you're supposed to see compulsion as a Good Thing. :p

Well that makes me thankful, though when I see compulsion mentioned on Tumblr and here I almost always get the sense of "ooh, he compelled so-and-so" and then I go off on mental rant "SHOULDN'T YOU BE SAYING 'EW, HE COMPELLED HER/HIM/THEM. THAT IS SO SKEEVY.'?"

Hmm, it's a contextual thing I think? And compulsion is often used as a plot point in this show so lol sometimes it is kind of like OH MY GOD HE HAS BEEN COMPELLED THE WHOLE TIME WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. Or even OH MY GOD HE HAS FOUND A WAY TO FIGHT COMPULSION WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING lol. Also this is the type of show where characters often make morally questionable decisions? Not just when it comes to compulsion. :p

And personally, I love that this is the type of show where ALL my favourite characters sometimes make shaddy decisions and I STILL love and sympathize with them even if I don't always agree with them. I can see how that wouldn't appeal to everyone but for me? BRING IT ON, EAT MY SOUL, I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS MORALLY DEPRAVED BAR etc.

This episode left me with hypertension. I'm still really sad over Elena slapping Stefan (you did not just hurt my prince!), but I guess you're right about her holding him to higher standards. Still makes me sad and remember their S1 days, wahhh. This isn't how it was supposed to be! They ruined my couple!

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN STEFAN TO ME BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND HIM AND IT MAKES ME VERY UPSETI think Stefan's just in this blind illogical panic to do whatever he can to hurt Klaus the most, even though I'm not sure what his gameplan really is. Will this coffin hide-and-seek last forever? I think the humanity is full on but he's just masking it with snark. Even when Elena told him about Jeremy, he looked like he cared but he had to put on a front and pretend he didn't. His voice was even softer. And he let Damon in on his plan, which I don't think he would do otherwise. I don't even think Stefan has a switch ( ... )

Aw bb. :| I'm mostly digging this season overall but I understand how you feel.

Even when Elena told him about Jeremy, he looked like he cared but he had to put on a front and pretend he didn't. His voice was even softer. And he let Damon in on his plan, which I don't think he would do otherwise. I don't even think Stefan has a switch.

I don't think Stefan has a switch either. :| I think the best guess is that he's just... given up? He doesn't think he'll ever be with Elena again so revenge against Klaus is the only thing he has.

Not good, my friend. Stefan and Bonnie though, let me watch you guys team up for 10 more episodes please.

YES PLZ.

i love this comment so much. and i agree. i agree with frances that elena held stefan to a higher standard than damon (although wouldn't that mean that when he fails she should have a deeper
level of grace? just saying.) but i also think when stefan tells damon that klaus took everything from him, he was acknowledging the high standard that he set for himself had been decimated. as far as his relationship with elena, he is already a disappointment; already a failure; already unforgivable or unredeemable; already lost to her. in his mind, he has already killed their relationship by his choice to save his brother by serving klaus--he had nothing else to lose because there was no way she would love him.

that doesn't diminish the hurt at his words, or make me not support the slap, but it does help me process stefan's motives right now.

He was about to leave when Katherine re-directed him, so I think he's kind of written off Mystic Falls and everyone in it, as something he'll never get back. So I don't think he particularly cares about Jeremy or Elena or anything (or at least convinced himself of that), BUT he does feel that he hates Klaus and wants to fuck with him and make him suffer.

I LIKE THIS

His old life is gone NOTHING ELSE MATTERS and the only emotion he has left is to take it out on Klaus.

He's been trying to get Elena to cut him loose for some time, now, so I think if he has a plan wrt her, I think it was pretty much exactly what happened: to get her to finally give up. I mean, really, not caring about Jeremy as collateral damage was the most perfect thing to say to Elena to make her go away, and while I don't know that it was necessarily deliberate, I think the result was what he wanted to convince her he was a lost cause.Ooh, I really like this. Also TRUE. Elena has been clinging to hope for so long now, but if anything could shatter that, it would ( ... )
