I finally watched Breaking Dawn last night. I REGRET NOTHING. The movie was kind of amazing ngl and by far my favourite of the bunch for the sheer over-the-top lulzy creepiness of the whole thing. /non spoilery reaction

Also, the more I reflect on it, the closer I come to concluding that S2 of Downton Abbey was actually kind of terrible.

I would be interested in these reflections. I didn't enjoy it as much, but I think that was mainly because my interest automatically goes down for war stories for some reason. But there were other things as well.

The drama was too over-the-top, interesting characters either went nowhere (Sybil) or became caricatures (Matthew's mother), the Lavinia storyline was sort of awful, and the first world war was over in about three episodes. It's like... idk, because the show suddenly became so popular, they rushed to get S2 out.

Mary is still flawless though.

I was not thrilled with the way Sybil/Branson played out. Also, Lord Crawley suddenly wanting the maid for some reason.

RIGHT??? It felt like they were creating drama for drama sake without staying true to the characters.

9. How about John Watson? Yes, I know he's a bit old for you, but he has lots of cuddly jumpers!

Wow you've only just read The Giver? That is a great book...

I'd also be curious to hear more about why you thought DA s2 was terrible...I mean, obviously it was more soapy and dramatic, but I didn't think it was bad, really. :/

And man your answers are all so surprising!! :p

Haha yes. I also just read the His Dark Materials trilogy which was... okay.

It felt really rushed? And like all the subtle character narratives they started in S1 were dropped in the name of over-the-top soap opera drama. I mean, I watched it fast and enjoyed it, but I went from loving everyone in S1 to basically only liking Mary in S2 lol.

Aw I did love HDM, even if there are some slow bits. You gotta give it props at the very least for being the inspiration behind the epic end of "Doomsday"...;)

And huh, strange, I felt like so many people became more likable this season, even if others like Robert and Branson were not. I think that the subtle character narratives of Edith, O'Brien, Thomas, and Cora were all well-served and continued into s2 at least. O_o. Oh well! Did you like the special?

STUPID KIDS WITH THEIR STUPID FACES. OUR OTP LITERALLY MAKES GOOGLY EYES AT EACH OTHER IN FRONT OF A LIST OF HIS MURDER VICTIMS AND WITH HIS NEW BOYFRIEND RIGHT OUTSIDE. ISSUES, THEY HAVE THEM.

THAT SCENE. IT IS THE ACTUAL BEST THING I HAVE SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE. AND IT IS SO MESSED UP.

Also: Yes, do watch Revenge. You won't love it as much as TVD, but it is delicious soap opera crack with an awesome female lead with a perfect face.

You make a convincing argument.

You're making me miss TVD again! I forgot to be sad because of Christmas prep all month and now I have time to be sad again! D:

I agree totally on DW being the big disappointment of the year. I'm so done with Amy/Rory/River. But the Christmas special was actually good! (Until the last few minutes. That was pointless and made so little sense in the context of the episode.)

And what do you mean season 2 of Downton was bad? Should I not be excited for its PBS premiere in January?

(Also, watch Revenge. You will regret nothing.)

Don't be sad! It comes back in about 10 days! Be happy!!!

I've heard the Special is boring but unoffensive? I'll probably check it out at some point.

I watched it SO FAST because it was so addicting but... yeah, on reflection, it's a bit of a disappointment. D: Lots of people loved it though!

(Also, watch Revenge. You will regret nothing.)

Awesome! I will definitely have to check this out.
