More thoughts on the Writer's Tale

Unf, doing international law readings on the rights of countries to the subsoil, seabed, and the living resources in the continental shelf is very boring. There is actually a whole treaty about this stuff. Sometimes I wonder how much the treaty drafters must have hated themselves. Of course then students like me come along and are like "AHHH AHHHHH ( Read more... )

law school, doctor who, ten/rose

I want my copy now! T_T

It would have been interesting to have the Doctor become Eleven and have Cloen there.(I'd love to see a AU fic as well)
But I don't think of it as a better happy ending, Rose would still be leaving him...

I don't even want to think what the Rose haters would say about it then...

It's really hard to put down once you start reading, ngl.

Yeah. I'm not sure there really is a happy ending when your dealing with two versions of more or less the same person. I think it would have been way, way worse for Ten if he'd had Rose back for several months rather than several minutes, but then, if he'd already regenerated into Eleven... I really don't know! It would make for such an interesting fic.

I don't even want to think what the Rose haters would say about it then...

Well my needs would have been met... XD

I think that scenario would have been horrific, to be honest. It was one thing for Ten to leave her when there was still some distance between them, when they hadn't spent any time along together in years. To do it after they'd traveled together again, after old feelings had been rekindled? And if it happened after the regeneration, then it just looks like Rose is making her choice based purely on appearance.

Yeah, there's definitely the potential for angst to the max.

And if it happened after the regeneration, then it just looks like Rose is making her choice based purely on appearance.Maybe, but with Ten being all "SOME NEW MAN GOES SWANNING OFF AND I'M DEAD" in EoT, I do see regenerating as a factor beyond simply an appearance change. I think it would be very natural and human for Rose to gravitate towards what's comfortable and familiar... and who even knows how Eleven would be feeling. I'm not saying I don't think he wouldn't love her and she him, but regenerating is a pretty big hurdle for a relationship to get through, no matter how much love is there. And I could believe it might be easier for Eleven to let go than Ten. Just like I saw Ten's Whirlwind Companion Death Tour as a final goodbye to those people... who Eleven will likely never mention again and, y'know, that's okay ( ... )

Yeah it is, but it would still feel weird to me. Especially since his love for her was constant going from Nine to Ten. Unfortunately the canon of the show was influenced by the clean break they wanted to introduce between the RTD/Tennant era and the Moffat/Smith era, so there isn't really a consistent message about regeneration and how much it affects the Doctor.

Yeah, I think that's why I can visualize a Ten II/Rose ending being comforting as opposed to horrendously angsty - if it was presented as "Rose gets to be with her Doctor, and while Eleven is sad for them, he can now move on."

And re: Nine/Rose to Ten/Rose... it did go very well for them, but the regeneration did change their relationship and how they related to each other. I could actually see Ten changing being a lot harder on Rose despite the previous experience since they got to be so much closer.

But I think it really would come down to how it would be presented. I could see it going either way (angsty versus.... less angsty).

I had the impression was to hatch Cloen when Eleven came along, but because they decided to do the specials and Billie Piper was already committed for JE, it all had to change. I think visually it would have been easier to take, simply because even if the Doctor is the Doctor is the Doctor, we wouldn't have KNOWN Eleven's particular quirks and such. I mean, it sucks all over that there has to be a choice, but in my shallow end of the pond, I just think it would have been easier to take without the visual of Rose leaving a Doctor that I picture her with. (I also base that on the fact that I already liked Tennant from his creepy bit as Barty Crouch, Jr. and still had to be SOLD on him as the Doctor. I was at least as suspicious as Rose at that point, simply because I loved the Ninth Doctor so much by the end of the series. And I don't really have any pre-love for Matt Smith. So easier.) Of course, when I thought about it before, I never gave any thought to Rose having stayed at Journey's End and the Cloen/Regeneration happening qt the ( ... )

Yeah, I think I'm with you. Though it's probably one of those things where Your Mileage May Vary. And I might say it would have made me feel better, but who even knows when you actually see it being played out? RTD probably could have turned it into a horrendously sad thing just as easily as making it about Rose ending up with "her" Doctor.

I vote yes to someone writing that AU. Where is the poll? And who are we stalking to get them writing. Are you all caught up from the Olympics yet? :D

I kind of have a plot bunny. THIS IS SUCH AN INCONVENIENT TIME TO LOSE MY HEAD OVER THIS OMG.

Okay, #2 is messing with my mind. :D But I think it might have looked like Rose was just in it for his looks.

Ten: *RETENERATES*

Rose: OMG.

Ten II: 'lo! *wiggles eyebrows*

Rose: Oooh, nice hair!

Eleven: 'lo! *wiggles eyebrows*

Rose: LOL NO.

BUT OMG, RTD! GIVE US SOMETHING FROM THE ALTVERSE! YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO! *FLAILS*

To be fair, she'd probably soften the "LOL NO" by, like, scratching him behind the ears or something. At least a pat on the shoulder.

What I don't even.

I am ALL FOR more canon!Rose adventures, but, like... how would that even work? Waters of Mars would never have gone down the way it did, if Rose'd been there.

... LOL LOL LOL ROSE VS. LADY CHRISTINA.

Right? It's kind of blowing my mind to contemplate it. If I actually wrote an AU... I would set it completely as character moments taking place after each episode. What is this plot nonsense.

BAHAHAHAHAAHA. Oh man. There's your answer, right there. It's obvious.

He'd be so scared of losing her again he'd just lock her in the TARDIS. So the episodes would be identical! Mostly.

BWAH! Everything about the scenario would delight her in every way.
