Doctor Who Filter: Ode to Ten (Part I)

Jan 06, 2009 21:46

I finally managed to work up the courage to watch the Eleventh Doctor Confidential. It was so cute! They had RTD and DT fanboying Doctors 1-8. *pinches their cheeks* And Steven Moffat congratulated Eight on being the first Doctor to start snogging his companions, which cracked me up ( Read more... )

David Tennant: *has chemistry with a giant rubber face in a bowl*
Jack: How you doing?

Hahahahahaha. Although a part of me refuses to believe that is Jack because I think RTD was just hitting the crack pipe a bit too much that day.

To me, S2 is about the Doctor overcoming some of his abandonment issues, and beginning to accept that being with Rose is worth the pain it might ultimately cause him. Sadly, it seems that losing Rose at the end of S2 (and then the Master, and then Martha and Jack, and then Donna) has basically left him back at square one

Very well-put. Although I do think he was willing to give it a go again post S2, but after the S4 finale he just said "fuck it" and decided that he was much better off standing alone in the rain, because at least the rain didn't run off with other people.

And sometimes a good cathartic cry can be good for the soul.

It's England's version of "Becoming Part 2". Sometimes you just really need that cry.

To be continued in S3I am not sure if it is good you are already making me ( ... )

Yes. I doubt it too. Mostly because the idea of Jack!Boe giving birth breaks my brains. Personally, I like to think that Jack was just trying to mess with the Doctor in LotTL.

After keeping Martha at arms-length, it *still* hurt when she left him. So he opened up to Donna (not that Donna really gave him much choice in the matter, hee), but man, did he ever get burned for that in JE. So he was left alone in the sad, sad rain.

And some fluffy reunion fic to make it all better!

I am not sure if it is good you are already making me anticipate Tennant's leaving ( ... )

I actually saw S2 first. Well, it was a bit weird, because I saw the last... five episodes of S2 first, then I saw eps 3-5, and then I went out and bought the series and watched it all over again. Then I saw S1. So, Tennant was always my focus. I've never been attached to Nine, and Ten has always been my favourite, and, not that you're allowed to tell anyone this, I think Nine is a bit... well... boring as compared to Ten. I know they're different, at different stages in their life, etc, but still. (I think David's hotness may have something to do with this. Or something. Anyway.)

This, however, is only one of the reasons why I agree with this comment: I just can’t buy the fanon that Rose spent weeks clinging to Nine’s jacket and crying into after TCI.

Yes, I think it may have taken a bit for her to transition. And yes, they never did specify just how much time passes between TCI and NE, so there would have been some adjusting going on then. But, as you say, I really don't think she would have spent hours sobbing about it. That ( ... )

Okay, that *is* sort of a strange order to watch it in! I'm really weird about making sure I watch TV shows in order, so I can't really imagine randomly starting with S2.

And it's hard for me to know if that has to do with Rose or the character. We'll see. I could end up ( ... )

*LOVES THIS POST*

I think I have much the same thinking as you when it comes to Nine and Ten. I loved watching Nine and fell in love with Doctor/Rose while watching S1 over the course of about a day. I wasn't heartbroken when he left though, probably because of the short time period. But TCI is really what launched my Doctor/Rose shipping from "LOVE" to "LOVE!!!" :D

But beyond the D/R stuff, I kind of have the feeling his face will first pop into my head whenever someone mentions "the Doctor" for a long time to come.

I might feel completely differently if we'd had CE for more than one season, but S2 (and now S4) is really my benchmark for the D/R relationship.

I suspect DT will be the Tom Baker of the new series.

You know, I've sort of been thinking that's why the BBC casted a relatively unknown actor for Eleven and not one of the bigger names fandom kept throwing around. What well-established actor would really *want* to be the person following DT? Not to mention all the hype and pressure that comes with the job.

Which actor was it that actually came out and said that? Was it Nesbitt? Some actor that was being named as a possible 'eleven' said that he couldn't dream of following David in any role because David was just too good.
