Day Seven--Your Favorite Piece of Music You Relate To Holmes

My first thought was... umm... I don't associate any music with Sherlock Holmes.

And then I remembered that one of my two favorite soundtracks of all time is Zimmer's soundtrack for the 2009 Sherlock Holmes.  :-)

Duh!

I quite like the 2009 Sherlock Holmes, but even if it had been a ( Read more... )

I LOVE that soundtrack!! Don't know if you're aware, but at the last U.S. figure skating championships, one of the men skated the most amazing routine to that music. (Won the silver medal, too!)

:-) Who was it? I don't have TV in my apartment, so the last figure skating I watched was the Olympics (was able to use my parents' optonline account and watch it online :-) *Evan Lysacek fangirl squee* )

Although... oddly... now that you say that, I almost feel like I might have seen it... I can see how it would be absolutely perfect for a routine. AND because of the intentionally tinny quality of the instruments, it wouldn't sound horrible over the loudspeakers!

Sorry, I didn't see your comment till just now. Richard Dornbush, who is adorable and one of my new favorite skaters. :-) His Nationals routine was taken down from YouTube (stupid copyright nitpicking), but he's skating it at Worlds this week, so there should be a new video available before long!

Agreed! Excellent choice. :) Although I do love the BBC theme tune as well.

And, actually, I saw a video on youtube to "The Boys are Back in Town", with clips of lots of different incarnations of Sherlock Holmes, and while the music isn't technically Sherlock Holmes related, I still loved it, it was very fitting. :)

I like the BBC tune, too. There isn't much to it--Basically the main theme, the depressed/lonely John theme and the CREEPY theme--but it works really well. I think it is also good because it's not distracting. I remember my viola teacher saying that you shouldn't actually notice soundtrack music if it's really good, and while I'm not going to argue for the BBC Sherlock soundtrack as mind blowingly spectactular, I still think that it does that.

I haven't watched that specific music video, mostly because I don't actually know that music, but I have seen a few other music videos that absolutely cracked me up, and that will be showing up under "favorite Holmes related video" I think. :-)

I love that theme, too. Hans Zimmer is a genius of soundtracks.

BTW, watching "Sherlock" for the first time, it seemed to me I had heard that theme music somewhere before - then I realised that it is strickingly similar to this one ;) (to my ears, at least).

Zimmer really is great. I wasn't his biggest fan before this--I felt as if a lot of his soundtracks sounded really similar--but this one is so DIFFERENT!

Also, I agree that the Sherlock soundtrack is reminiscent of this one. I keep wondering if it was intentional or not...

I wondered, too. At the very least, it is a strange coincidence.

But yes, there are some of Zimmer's soundtracks that sound very similiar, but now and again, there is one of these gems... :)
