I am fully convinced, down to the bottom of my cynical little heart that Peter Jackson's Hobbit will be a travesty.

So, when I heard that Cumberbatch was joining the cast, I wasn't sure whether to be happy that another briliant actor was joining the already brilliant cast or sad that another brilliant actor was joining the travesty, which would be ( Read more... )

I might do a little leap of joy (once I feel better) if he is the voice of Smaug. I've been thinking since SEPTEMBER that his voice would be a great fit for Smaug.

As a LOTR fangirl who was crushed by what Pete and the gang did to Faramir's character and the plotline..I don't think they can do anything ridiculously awful to the Hobbit since my spidy senses are up and running and I will be prepared for diversions and weirdnessand a generally strange version of the Hobbit which looks nothing like the one in my head.
Let's hope there's an extended version that doesn't make me cry from how bad it is.

Faramir is my second favorite character in the book that has been my favorite since I was eight.

I am with you 100%

I feel like the only person in the Sherlock fandom who doesn't care about the Hobbit either way.

That said, his joining the cast feels a bit gimicky to me for some reason. Dude's everywhere right now (apparently even doing ice cream adverts), so I'm 100% not surprised that he's been cast.

I honestly haven't kept up with the Hobbit news at all. I'm a huge Tolkien fan, but I am so convinced that it will be terrible, I basically try not to care, and the best way to do that is to forget about it. (Though every time I think about how PERFECT Freeman would be to play a Hobbit, and how there's no way the film will be any good I feel sad.) I just stumbled across the Cumberbatch thing, and I would love him to voice a dragon!

I'll totally end up seeing the Hobbit in movie theatres, but I'll regret it...

Oh, is that what everyone's wanting him to play? haha I'm the world's worst nerd. I have no idea.

I don't know what the general consensus is on what people want Cumberbatch to play. I saw Bard the Bowman and Smaug. I only saw Smaug in one place, though.

Fact is, no one knows.
