[ it is late, and way way past luca's bed time. but the tiny red-head peering through his NV looks tired and upset and like he might have been bawling for a good while all at once. despite this, he's attempting to contact jack, obviously alone in what appears to be the room owned by alois. ]

Mr. Jack? [ There's a small, tearful hiccup. ] Are you awake?

I think I upset Brother. H-he was crying, an' I didn't mean to make him cry, an' he said it's okay and I didn't do anything wrong but it's not an' I did, an' he wasn't here when I woke up.

Mr. Castiel was talkin' about demons, so I told him about the nice lady I met, an' he said that demons aren't nice. But I told him they have to be, 'cause the lady was nice and granted a wish for me.

An' then Brother was talking about shopping and Mr. Castiel was asking him lots of things about us and how Brother felt about God. And then Brother got angry because Mr. Castiel said God is just and Brother told him-- [ He apparently doesn't want to repeat it for himself, so instead sends this conversation recording to Jack. ]

And then I told-- [ Hiccup. ] I went to his room and I told him that I wasn't going to go to hell. That the lady had promised after she granted my wish and took my soul that we'd be by his side forever. And he was staring at me like he was scared and not sayin' anything. And then he was crying, and said that he was happy I granted his wish but I don't think he is, Jack. He says it's 'cause he missed me, but the lady promised we'd be with him forever, and if he missed me then we couldn't have been

[the first thing that registers in his mind is that: Luca Macken had a contract. All of six years old and he had a contract with a demon.

What the hell kind of world did he live in, for him - who certainly didn't know what he was doing - to give up his soul for --

The second thing that registers is: he was happy I granted his wish.

He did it for his brother. Alois.

Jack has to turn flip his screen away for a moment to hide his horrified expression. When the screen returns, there's an expression of sheer concern on his face. He wishes badly that he was there, in person, to gather the boy in his arms and tell him that it wasn't him.]

Did Alois know about your demon before last night?

Everyone keep sayin' that, but...I think I made him really sad and he hates me. He hates bein' alone and I left him by himself for a long time.

People said his wish was bad, and I shouldn't have gotten it granted. But we're not bad. The people were the bad ones.
