When using milkshape, never forget to save before you regroup things. It will save you untold misery in the long run. I've resurected my brief burst of meshing enthusiasm for my SS gift, and so far it is only causing me pain. I don't know how to stick things together, and it seems to be one of those meshing things that is so basic, no one even ( Read more... )

It always annoyed the hell out of me that in basically any tutorial, at some point they will assume you know more than you do and make you even more confused. If you like, I'd be happy to try to help you with meshing. (Of course, I don't have Milkshape at the moment and haven't actually meshed since May, so you may want to pass on that.)

Hannah is adorable.

Thank you :)

Yeah, the stuff I actually need in tutorials always seems to be in footnotes or the comments somewhere. Most frustrating. I'd take you up on that offer, but there are some tedious things I know I should try (manually aligning vertices, bleh) and it'll probably be one of them that will do the trick. I just had to vent about my regrouping stupidity.

Dude, you need to get out of my head! My new amazing boots from eBay arrived this week too. But I'm not allowed them until Christmas so I'm relying on my trusty old purple DMs for the time being.

Hannah looks awesome. That hair is great, I haven't found anyone to put it on in my game yet though :(

Haha, my new ones are DMs! I love them, I've been wearing them all day.

Thank you, I've got a mild case of hair obsession over it at the moment.

To stick things together, make sure you have the most recent version of the unimesh tools (4.09 I believe). Make sure the part you want to move the vertices to is above the part you want to move in the groups tab, select the two (or more) vertices you want to join, and use Vertex -- Sims2 Unimesh Vertext Data Merge V4.09. Not only will your vertex move to the other vertex, but it'll have the bone assignments copied over automatically. Then, use Vertex -- Sims2 Unimesh Normal Data Merge V4.09 to pull the normal data over and get rid of any lines caused by unaligned normals.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you! I've been using various snap/weld together options which seemed to work well enough for the blocky furniture I'd tried in the past, but I'm really glad to get some proper information, I'll be trying this out.

I forgot to mention that you'll have to fix the uv mapping after you do this. If you want, I can give you some more detailed instructions on how to do this since uv mapping can be a total bitch to figure out, and I don't think there are any good tutorials out there (could be wrong, of course).

Yeah, I thought that would need doing - it was mentioned in the tutorials I've looked at. I've decided to stick with furniture, as it seems a lot easier not to have to deal with bone assignments etc and I don't want my gift to end up being a practise mesh, but I still really appreciate the advice - the next time I decide I really need to change the shoes on something, I'm going to have a much better stab at it.

I like how she's decked out in Maxis clothing XD What kind of boots? Boots are very relevant to my interests. They are only my favorite kind of shoes, even moreso if they are /platform/.

They are black Doc Martens, nothing fancy. I love them though, I wore my knock-offs to death last winter so I am thrilled with these <3

Yeah, she was the designated adult for the teens I was townifying. It could have been worse, she could have gotten the skanky hotpants xD

Your link leads to my journal! ;D Is it weird I find that really exciting? idk idk I am sort of a loser that way.

Also, I've been wanting to tell you that your game is quite pretty, I enjoy looking at your pictures :D Anna's so cute and that hair really suits her -- I haven't been able to really make it work on a sim yet ):

I'd meant to raid your journal for your retextures for ages, so I only just realised how nice they looked - I've been using that one on aaall my sims, so I thought I'd mention it. (I get hair crushes sometimes ok).

And thank you, you're too kind :D
