thoughts on the World Cup

I've watched four or five of the World Cup matches, in bits and pieces. Soccer is one of the few team sports I like to watch, (I thoroughly enjoy things like skiing, diving, ice skating, and hula championships.)

Psst! They lost in a "shoot-out" not penalty kicks. Pentaly kicks happen during the game when someone fouls.

I don't know what the hell Zindane was thinking. He wasn't even talking to Materazzi, he just turning around and THONK!

Well, then all the announcers and all the graphics on the screen were wrong. I don't know enough about soccer to use the right term if all the folks "in the know" use the wrong term, that's for sure!

Most of the videos only show the head-butt, but one of them shows what led up to it, they were arguing, but of course there is no sound from that far off.

We taped and watched the whole game. Apparently some people (not Zidane himself) on the french team are claiming that Materazzi called him a "dirty terrorist." The Italians of course, deny everything.

Yeah, I read that. I also read a rumor that Materazzi was angry at Zidane for changing nations he played for at some point. (I'm not sure what the story is behind that.) Whatever he said wasn't worth it. It's like my mother always said when I was teased at school when I was little: "They're just trying to get your goat. If you respond, they win."
