[Did some sound alert him, or is this just a case of cosmically proportioned bad timing? Instead of the library, Holmes instead had spent his time draped limp over his settee, lacking any motivation as he awaits his assignment. He's taken off his jacket and pulled on his purple dressing gown, but otherwise he's still in his evening clothes ( ... )

[Data's particularly doggishly good hearing picks up on sudden footsteps approaching the door, and he experiences the strange inability to process his own pulse. He can't move, suddenly clutching the box with too many options running too quickly and overlapping each other until it's too late to pursue any of them.

And then he's looking at the front of Sherlock Holmes's dressing gown.

He stands to his full hight, brows raising as he ponders a response to such a simple statement. He really ought to turn off his emotion chip, but then he might only manage to be embarrassed later.]

Actually, sir, you have. [He holds the box out toward him after a moment, eyes flitting to examine the room behind Holmes. No.... Yes, of course. He'd been given something resembling his Baker Street residence. ...It would be impolite to keep looking. Here. He'll just look at Sherlock's face. Okay... no, that just magnifies the embarrassment. Maybe his collar is safe. That'll do.]

Ah, the restorer of faith in the inhuman. Greetings. [Holmes' eyes flicker rapidly, taking in all the little details he was unable to see with Data crouching. What curious colours beings here exhibit. And no small amount of sheepishness.]

[Holmes gently takes the box, raises his eyebrows as he looks at it.]

Yes, it is Christmas in this strange place, isn't it? I'm not sure what I've done to warrant a present so soon upon my arrival, but I thank you all the same.

[Holmes steps back, grandly gesturing into the room.] Won't you come in?

Your reputation proceeded you. I am certain I will not be the only one. [Though perhaps the only one caught in the act.

But then he's given an invitation inside. An actual invitation into the actual current residence of the Sherlock Holmes.] ...Yes. Thank you. [It was going to take every circuit within him to restrain himself from touching everything.

He steps inside, barely avoiding an absolute reverent look around, but also avoiding touching anything because he didn't know what parts of everything that he might actually be able to touch.]
