Victory! I've been making a couple of threats with regard to my tablet lately- it has a short in the cable and is extremely finicky and prone to cutting out at random intervals when I bump something out of place, which was happening more and more often and driving me mad ( Read more... )

As a more permanent fix you could buy a USB to bare wire cable from most any major electronics supply company, IE mouser.com or digikey.com. Then just take the existing cable off and splice them together. If you tape the splice up nicely the shorts will go bye bye and the reliability will go up up. Hella lot cheaper than a tablet.

Hm, would that work with the short sitting at a spot right up next to the tablet, rather than at the end of the cable like the last one?

Also, if I get a new one, it will be bigger and nicer. XD I've been debating between a 6x8 intuos or a 6x8 wireless graphire (which would, at least, solve my problems with flimsy cables!)

The tablet would have to be opened up and it would be a complete cable replacement, the only part of the old cable being used is basically the connector that is used inside the tablet. So it would work regardless of where the short is, assuming that the short is not in the connector inside the tablet.

Though this certainly does not cause a bigger and nicer tablet to arrive. Especially during the holiday seasons. You should really be pushing for that 21" Cintiq, as that thing looks pretty nice.

I think that the one that has "a lot wrong with it" is definitely one of the most unique conglomerations-of-creature I've ever seen. I like it, despite whatever's wrong with it. :-D
